So you’ve decided that the next step for your bands successful music career is to team up with a PR agency? Of course you’ll want to do your own research too, but I’ve compiled a short list of some of the UK’s top PR agencies to help you make your mind up!
Prescription PR are one of the UK’s leading music PR agencies, and although they don’t strictly restrict themselves to rock music, their roster for rock/alternative artists is very strong including Weezer, Smashing Pumpkins, and Angels and Airwaves. They have also worked with some of the biggest labels such as Universal Music and Polyvinyl Records. This probably means their services won’t be especially cheap but if you have the dough to blow it is probably going to do you huge favours in the long run!
Hold Tight! PR have worked with some smaller, albeit very well known, record labels such as Basick and Fearless Records, and bands such as Room 94, Hacktivist, and Thecityisours. They work with bands, artists, and labels around the globe and pride themselves with being affordable answer for all of your PR needs. They are run by a small, yet well oiled, team of six and cover everything from online media to content writing. Hold Tight! PR are driven by their “solid knowledge of the industry, love of great music, enthusiasm for our artists and a will to achieve the best we can for each and every one of them”.
Rage PR specialise in rock and metal music with some of their best known clients being Bowling For Soup, William Control, and The Dead XIII. But they don’t just work with established bands, they also recognise brand new talent too. In fact, they seem to be the first port of call for new and upcoming artists with several friends of mine who are in bands telling me they are considering teaming up with Rage to run their publicity.
Domino PR is a South West based music PR company run by Steph Knight. Steph has worked with some very successful bands in her eight year career including Hacktivist and DEAD!, and prides herself in offering “affordable print, online, radio and television promotion for bands around the world”. Steph is such a hard working PR agent and is always keen to help out people trying to break into the industry too. In fact, you can read the chat I had with her here.
Wall of Sound PR is an independent Liverpool-based boutique press agency who specialise in alternative music. They boast about having “an ear for the unusua; and an open mind”. They have several successful artists on their roster including Allusondrugs and Grove Street Families. All of their staff come from a music industry background that spans promotion, booking, artist management, independent labels, event production, journalism and time spent as professional touring and recording musicians, giving them an innate and broad understanding of the music industry at large. They have contacts with some of the best press outlets in the country including Kerrang!, BBC radio, Team Rock, and Scuzz.
Good luck with choosing the best PR agency for your band! Do you think any other agencies should be on this list? Let me know in the comments!
